Early Life
Nathan Leopold was born November 19th, 1904 in Germany and from an early age he had a number a homosexual encounters. Leopold's family life was totally empty, his mother died when he was young and his father neglected him and gave him little attention. Nathan was not far from brilliant, he completed undergraduate degree at the University of Chicago and attended law school also at the University of Chicago. Leopold was an expert ornithologist and planned to transfer to Harvard Law School, he was even known to be able to speak 27 languages fluently.

Richard Loeb was born on June 11th, 1905 in Chicago Illinois. Loeb came from a family of wealth, his father became the vice president of Sears and Roebuck when he was just a young boy. Richard fancied himself a master of criminal detective but his dream was to commit the "perfect crime" and he constantly reached for ways to control others. Loeb was considered a genius, he was the youngest graduate in the history of the University of Michigan and planned to enter the university of Chicago Law School. |
Both the families of Leopold and Loeb lived in the Kenwood neighborhood on Chicago's south side. The two boys met at the University of Chicago as teenagers and not long after the boys became friends Nathan Leopold attempted to a sexual relationship with Loeb. Richard refused but then later agreed to engage in sexual activities with Leopold but only under the condition that he begin a career of crime with him; Leopold agreed and the boys signed a formal pact. The boys started their crime with theft, the pair committed a series of more and more serious crimes. For four years they did crimes such as robbery, vandalism, and petty theft but that was never enough for Loeb, he dreamed of something much bigger...a murder. Loeb convinced Leopold that it would it would be an exciting and thrilling challenge and they immediately started planning.
